BloodRayne 2 Movie Set Catches Fire

BordertownA week after spending time on the set of videogame-movie "BloodRayne 2," I received a note from producer/director Uwe Boll that a major fire destroyed the train station building at Bordertown. The set, which has been used for numerous Westerns and recent films like Nicolas Cage's "Wicker Man," is located about an hour outside of Vancouver, British Columbia. It's located next to a horse ranch, which makes it easy for Westerns to be filmed there. The fire was complicated by the presence of propane tanks, which were on hand to warm the buildings. The set was covered in snow and the temperature was below freezing when I was there. Despite the fire, the production, which will wrap by Christmas, only missed a day and a half of shooting.

In addition to the lost building, which was being used to store props, firearms, lighting equipment, set decorations and wradrobe, a tent containing special effects equipment and supplies was also destroyed. The total ammount of damage from the fire is being tallied.

"We lost a full half day of shooting on the night of December 6th," said Dan Clark, the film's producer. "We also had to cancel shooting for December 7th so that we may replace destroyed items and formulate a plan to shoot around the site of the fire. We will need to determine how we can make up for this lost shooting time."

"BloodRayne 2" is set to bow on DVD from Visual Entertainment in May 2007. The film stars Natassia Malthe, Zack Ward and Michael Pare in a vampire Western. The film has a budget of $8.5 million. It's Boll's first Western, and the first vampire Western to make it to the big screen. New Line Cinema had optioned Capcom's "DarkWatch" a few years ago, which the creators of "Final Destination" were developing as a movie. That game features a male half-vampire character, Jericho Cross, who hunts down vampires in the Wild West. Boll's movie has Billy the Kid as a vampire who's taken the town of Deliverance hostage.
