"Pirates" Booty for New Game Company

The fact that Buena Vista Home Entertainment sold over 5 million "Pirates of the Carribean Dead Man's Chest" DVDs in its first week is good news to the game industry. Bethesda Softwork's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow," which features the voicework of Johnny Depp, should get a boost. The game just took home a VGA for Gamer's Choice Best Game Character. Buena Vista Games' PSP "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest" game should also benefit from the marketing. New game company, Zizzle, which makes the "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest" pinball game, is actively a part of the DVD launch, as well.
The new company, which sprung up from former Tiger Electronics employees, is getting great promotion inside of the new "Pirates" DVD, which includes an ad for the pinball machine. At $300, it's the cheapest and only pinball machine made specifically for the home. The machine is also being sold at retailers like Best Buy and will benefit from a series of pinball tournaments in stores. Online retailers like Amazon.com are also selling the machine, along with a "Marvel Heroes and Villains" pinball game.
Zizzle, which is working on a new pinball game to release next summer with the third film, "Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End," also makes toys and action figures based on the license. Next up are electronic handheld games featuring the pirates.
Zizzle has constructed a factory in China that's churing out the low-priced, 3/4 sized pinball machines. The plan is to come out with at least two new machines a year and each will be based on a Hollywood license or big license like Marvel. The company has been inundated with requests from big Hollywood brands, and already has great relationships with companies like Disney through its electronic games division.
