Mobile Games, Film Tie-ins at 2007 Leipzig GC Developers Conference

If you're anything like us, you're still trying to sort out your bar tab from last year's trip to Leipzig. Well get out your chug mugs, because the GC Developers Conference, the biggest European conference of it's kind, has just confirmed it's 2007 summer dates: August 20-22. The event will be held at the Leipzig Exhibitions Centre in sunny Leipzig, Germany (communism-free since 1990!).
This year, the event's motto is "Upgrade the Future". Discussions and panels will focus on the future of the game industry: mobile gaming, server technology, the European development industry, and the increasingly profitable relationship between games and film.
Also new to the conference this year, a 'matchmaking application' (!?) More details on that as they become available.
Despite the organizer's attempted censorship of the Machinima feature film BloodSpell for "excessive violence", a record 183,000 gamers, developers, and journalists attended the 2006 event, way up from only 80,000 at the first conference in 2002. Coincidence? Nothing improves attendance like a good old fashioned censorship scandal.
Top 3 Places to Go in Leipzig, Germany:
1. Thomaskirche - the church where Bach played the organ and wrote all his slow jams.
2. Stasi Museum's "Power and Banality" exhibit - see how the government used to spy on civilians during the Cold War.
3. Auerbachs Keller - the tavern where Mephistopheles bought Faust a beer.
